Shawn Dietrich started adventure racing in the summer of 2002. After returning from USARA national and discussing the idea of a Tampa Bay area club with teammate Jessica Koelsch for the entire drive to and from Sapphire Valley NC, they decided to create WeCeFAR.

The enthusiasm spread to another local triathlon club “St. Pete Mad Dogs” networking these athletes with those who blazed the Florida Adventure Racing trail.

In May of 2002, the management team decided to formalize the club and apply for Non-profit status. A new website was introduced in November 2002.

After just one month, WeCeFAR has more than 60 members, and keeps growing on a daily basis.
