EVENT INFORMATION

Register Now!!!

The Squiggy Adventure Races scheduled for March 14 as part of the Squiggy Classic Weekend have been postponed due to extreme flood conditions in the park. Fortunately, we are able to RESCHEDULE the Advenutre Races for Saturday APRIL 10, and move the Croom Quest/Quickie (originally scheduled for April 10 at Croom) to Morris Bridge Park.

We are accepting new registrations for this rescheduled race date and for the re-located

We have also added a NEW EVENT: SQUIGGY QUEST MUTISPORT RACE!

You’re invited to spend a few hours running beautiful trails, hiking through pine forests and cypress swamps, riding single-track bike trails and dirt roads, canoeing the Hillsborough River , navigating with map and compass, and other special challenges in a competitive adventure! Get ready for one of four races – pick the course that is best for you and your family!

The Squiggy Classic offers 6-7 hours of challenges unique to the race location: both the “favorite trails” of the park, as well as places seldom visited! Soloists and teams of two or three can expect great challenges and great fun! Canoes, paddles, life jackets are provided for teams, but personal canoes or kayaks are allowed. Soloists must provide their own boats, paddle, and PFD. The course will be primarily UNMARKED where participants will navigate with map and compass. The fun starts at 8 am with first teams expected to cross the finish line around 1 pm, with food starting around 2 pm, everyone completing by 3:30 pm and awards ceremony at 4 pm. Or try the “Squiggy Dash” – a shorter version of the Squiggy Classic, perfect for newcomers, fun-lovers, or families!

NEWLY ADDED!! SQUIGGY QUEST MULTISPORT RACE Because we had to cancel the Croom Quest Multisport Race (originally scheduled for April 10), we are offering a Multisport Option to the Rescheduled Squiggy Race Weekend. SQUIGGY QUEST is an off-road triathlon-style mutisport race (trail run, mtn bike, paddle) on a MARKED COURSE, approximately 1.5 - 2 hr each discipline. Distances as follows: Run = 10 mi; Paddle = 8.2 mi (2/3 upstream); Bike = 17 mi. Maps will be EMAILED to Registered Racers (also, upon request of interested racers).

Exact distances and maps to be posted by April 1. Enjoy fast and tight single-track trails for running and cycling, and a beautiful cyrpess lined river for paddling. SOLOS ONLY for Squiggy Quest (must provide own boats). CASH PRIZE to TOP 3!!

The Squiggy Dash starts at 10 am and covers a MARKED course with about 45 minutes each of biking, running, paddling, challenges, and adventure (about 2-3 hours total). Although the Dash course is marked, be prepared to use your map and/or compass for a challenge to two…
We added the “Dash” several years ago to offer a shorter race to encourage newer adventurers, and we now have more teams in the “Dash” than in the 6 hour race!

The Squiggy Junior Kids Race is a chance for the whole family to get involved! Younger racers (under 15 years old) can participate in a 20-30 mini-adventure race of their own.  The Squiggy Junior will be run before the “Dash” race starts so Dash racers can encourage the kids!  That also means parents can help their kids with the “Junior”, and then go race in the “Dash”.

NAVIGATION

Good navigation skills are required for Classic racers. Since the Classic course will have only limited “marked” portions, participants need be prepared to: use a compass to determine direction/bearing; follow bearings specified distances; use B&W or color USGS Quad/Topographic maps and aerial photographs; follow written instructions; travel along mandatory routes; select their own routes; deal with unpredictable situations and find novel solutions to problems. If you are not familiar or adept with any of these skills, please seek adequate training beforehand. Contact squiggy@wecefar.com for more info.
Dashers” will be on marked course, but should know basic map and compass reading skills.
Racers is both Dash and Classic should learn how to plot UTM coordinates (tutorial available at www.maptools.com)

Junior
racers will be on a marked course.

Squiggy Quest racers will be on a marked course.

Navigation Clinics
are offered by Kip Koelsch through Bill Jackson’s Shop for Adventure.  Contact kip@wecefar.com for schedule or other resources.

Squiggy Junior participants must be under 15 years old and race in pairs. If a “Junior Racer” does not have a partner we will match them up with someone on race day.  “Juniors” under 12 may race with parent if they wish.

CUT-OFF TIMES

We want to see as many teams as possible cross the finish line of the Squiggy Classic. To accommodate teams of wide-ranging experience, ability, and speed, there may be a cut-off built into the course. If racers do not make the cut-off, they will be re-routed and allowed to continue on the course. The goal is for all finishing teams to complete the course in under 7-8 hours.

There are no cut-off times for the Squiggy Dash, Squiggy Junior or Squiggy Quest.
